Santo Antao, Cabo Verde

In November 2011 we did a trekking on the beautifull island of Santo Antao.
Actually we did 2 trekkings: one of 4 days in the north and 1 of 3 days in the west of the island.

Santo Antao is a fantastic island with great contrasts between north and south. The north is very green with steep valleys. The south is dry and barren.

The trekking was organised by alsatour (www.alsatour.de), run by an eccentric austrian and Swiss who both live a on the island for a long time.
For trekkings on Santo Antao there is no better choice then to contact them.

Here is an impression of this wonderfull place.

On the boat from Sao Vicente to Santo Antao.

Memories of Winter

It is a rainy sunday in May. A nice moment to go through the pictures I took last winter. Winter 2009/2010 was an unusually snowy winter over here in the Netherlands. Here are some pictures to prove it.

And a few shots of our wintersport vacation in Nordseter, Norway.

Somiedo: Undiscovered beauty

I late may/early June 2005 I visited National Park Somiedo in Northern Spain with my wife. I only went there because I saw a pictures of Brana La Porcanal(see above) in a guidebook and I thought it 'looked neat'.

How could I know I would end up in a quiet secluded mountain paradise?
I high season there will probably more people around but in late May we had the place pretty much to ourselves. I cetainly like to go back here one day for some more extensive hiking.

This superb national park is of intrest for all hikers and nature lovers.

Uganda; the Pearl of Africa

Pearl of Africa? Not my words, but the way the Ugandan Tourist board likes to advertise the country.
And Uganda IS very beautfill. Lush green scenery, friendly people, rolling hills and some more serious mountains in the south-west.

We visited Murchison falls NP, Kibale forest, Queen Elisabeth NP, Gorilla trekking in Bwindi inpenitrable forest, Kisoro and surroundings, Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mburo NP.

Some pictures I am happy about:
